Simple Green/USHA Pro Stop #5
New York Athletic Club, N.Y., N.Y.
April 16, 2000
MANHATTAN — SIMPLE GREEN/USHA pro tour stop #5 is visiting the "Big Apple" this
weekend and is being held in conjunction with the 30th NYAC Invitational.
Dave Chapman (St. Louis) returned to his winning ways as beat Vince Munoz (Whittier,
Calif.) in two games, 21-12, 21-7.
"My footwork was off this weekend," said Chapman, after winning his fourth pro
stop of the year. "After San Francisco, I have been really sick. I have not had
the chance to work out like I would have liked too. I am looking to get in shape
for Los Cab (site of the final Pro Stop of the year)."
Naty Alvarado (Hesperia, Calif.) bounced back from his loss to Chapman the night
before, by beating David Silveyra (Commerce, Calif.) in two quick games, 21-16,
21-1.
Given the few number of courts available at the NYAC, the semifinals and final
of the consolation matches were played on Sunday.
Dan Armijo (Albuquerque), long time tour veteran, turned some heads as he made
his way to the final to face top-seed, Norm Dunne (San Jose, Calif.). Dunne and
Armijo were both exhausted from weekend play, but they gave all they got in the
consolation final. Dunne defeated Armijo in an 11-6 tiebreaker.
The Simple Green/USHA pro tour would like to thank the NYAC Handball Club for
having the pro stop along with their tournament. Special thanks goes to Anthony
Fauci and John Duggan for all their hard work and effort to put on a spectacular
event.
The final Simple Green/USHA pro stop for this season will take place the first
weekend of May as they visit Los Caballeros, in Orange County, Calif., the site
of the 1998 USHA Four-wall Nationals.
