Munoz Wins Pro Stop #2, Chapman Not a Factor
West Allis, WISCONSIN- Vince Munoz (Whittier, Calif.) cruised through the draw
and into first place, winning the SIMPLE GREEN/USHA Pro Stop #2, Sunday, in Milwaukee.
"I played really well," said Munoz, which is an understatement as he lost only
one game out of 13. Munoz advanced each round winning three games straight, except
for the final, where it took four games to defeat Dave Chapman (St. Charles,
Mo.).
"I was really frustrated in the first game when Chapman was serving the lob serve
to the left-corner," said Munoz, who found himself down 4-0. "All of a sudden
I started rolling them out with my left and from there on, he did not go back
to his lob."
"Chapman does not seem to be playing like he normally does," said Munoz, when
asked to compare todayÌs match with previous matches. "He was making a
lot more hand errors than normal."
Munoz never game Chapman the chance to get in a rhythm as he won the first two
games with ease, 11-4, 11-3.
The third game could have gone either way as both players were tied at nine for
some time. Chapman managed to stay alive winning the third, 11-9. '98.
In the fourth and final game of the match, Munoz caught fire and never looked
back as he shut Chapman out, 11-0, ChapmanÌs second consecutive match
at a pro stop where he did not score in a game.
The Milwaukee crowd was treated to an exciting final as well as the playoff for
third place and the pro consolation final.
No. 4 Naty Alvarado Jr. (Hesperia, Calif.) defeated No. 3 David Silveyra (Commerce,
Calif.) for third place in five games. Alvarado won the first two games, 11-3,
11-8.ÝSilveyra came to life winning the next two, 11-1, 11-7, to push
a fifth and final game. Alvarado found himself down 5-0 in the fifth game when
he went on a scoring tirade, outscoring Silveyra on an 11-1 run to win the fifth
game, 11-6 and third place.
In the pro consolation final, Matt Hiber (St. Paul, Minn.) defeated Kendell Lewis
(New York) in a close match 15-13, 8-15, 11-10.
The SIMPLE GREEN/USHA pro tour would like to thank Charlie Keller, Ed Werstein,
